Rarity sits apart from quality

Every Dota 2 cosmetic has a rarity, shown by the colour of its name. Rarity describes how the item was released and how hard it is to obtain. Quality prefixes such as Genuine sit on top of that, as a separate label.

The main tiers

  • â–¸Common
  • â–¸Uncommon
  • â–¸Rare
  • â–¸Mythical
  • â–¸Legendary
  • â–¸Immortal
  • â–¸Arcana

You will also see Ancient and Seasonal on some items released through specific events.

Common to Mythical

Most hero sets and single pieces sit in these tiers. Supply runs high, prices sit low, and you can dress a hero for very little. Mythical sets often come from events and treasures and can hold value for longer than the lower tiers.

Immortal

Immortal items, marked in gold, tend to come from treasures tied to seasonal events and The International. They often change a hero's weapon or add effects. Once a treasure stops dropping, the supply of its Immortals stops growing.

Arcana

Arcana sits at the top. An Arcana changes how a hero looks and plays in visible ways, often with new animations, effects and voice lines. Juggernaut's Bladeform Legacy is one example. Arcanas cost the most and draw the most attention in a match.

What rarity means when you buy

Rarity gives you a rough idea of where a price should land, and it stops there. A popular Mythical can cost more than an Immortal nobody wants. Look at recent sale prices for the item itself, since the tier colour cannot tell you what people are paying today.
